At Renoxx Caregivers, every family’s story matters. For Mr. George Onokwe, the journey with Renoxx has been one of trust, transformation, and long-standing partnership. As the father of Alexis Onokwe, a 27-year-old participant in our Lanham Center programs, Mr. Onokwe reflects on more than a decade of support that has made a lasting impact on his daughter’s life — and his own.
A Mother’s Choice That Shaped Their Future
The Onokwe family’s journey with Renoxx began in 2014, when Mr. Onokwe’s late wife made the decision to enroll Alexis after touring the facility. “She told me she liked the accommodations and the structure of the program,” Mr. Onokwe recalls. “She believed it would be the right place for Alexis and she was right.”
Located in Lanham, Maryland, just minutes from their home in Glendale, Renoxx became more than a care provider. It became a partner in their family’s growth.
Consistent Support & Meaningful Progress
Alexis participates in a full-day one-on-one care program, including morning transportation and evening activities until 7 PM. The structured routine has not only created stability in her life but has also allowed Mr. Onokwe to continue working and managing other responsibilities.
“Alexis used to be a bit aggressive and would try to run off,” he shared. “Now, those behaviors are virtually gone. Her independence has grown, and there’s a calmness in her I didn’t see before.”
From celebrating birthdays at the center to engaging with peers and staff, Alexis has found a place where she feels safe, accepted, and happy. “When she doesn’t go on weekends, she asks to go. That tells me everything,” Mr. Onokwe adds.
Staff That Feels Like Family
Over the years, Mr. Onokwe has built trusting relationships with the Renoxx team — praising their attentiveness, compassion, and professionalism. Whether it was Mr. Abu or now Mr. Elvis, the consistency of care has remained strong.
“We’ve had Zoom meetings about behavioral plans, and every concern I’ve raised was listened to and acted upon,” he said. “I feel supported and heard as a parent.”
He also shared gratitude for Alexis’s dedicated one-on-one support staff, Ms. Tolu, who continues to provide steady guidance and personalized care each day.
Words of Encouragement for Other Families
For families considering Renoxx Caregivers, Mr. Onokwe has one clear message: “You should seriously consider it. I’ve only had good experiences. The changes in my daughter’s behavior have been a joy to witness.”
When asked to describe Renoxx in three words, he simply said:
“Supportive. Attentive. Reliable.”
At Renoxx Caregivers, we are honored to be part of stories like the Onokwe family’s stories of hope, growth, and community. Their testimonial is a reminder of why we do what we do everyday.
